Why We Love Family Movie Night + Fall Family Movie Picks

September 6, 2019

Every Friday night, we have family movie night. I know many families have a designated night they do this, but we were late to the game. We actually didn’t make it an official weekly thing until our son started kindergarten. I want to kick myself for that, because it has been a grounding time for us weekly and I always look forward to it. For the longest time, we alternated between pizza ordered out and frozen pizza. As of 2019, I’ve added a themed component to our menu. The kids have pizza at school on Fridays, so they were sort of pizza-ed out. An easy example: one night we had hot dogs and s’mores when we watched Sandlot.

Our only REAL rule for family night is that it has to be easy, low key, and relaxing.

Keep meals simple. We love to grab Chicken Garlic Alfredo pizza from Papa Murphy’s, I will usually pick it up while the kids are at school and throw it in the oven. Aldi has great frozen pizzas, and so does Trader Joe’s. Snack trays are a fun one: fruit, cheese, popcorn, etc. Burgers, Mandarin Chicken from Trader Joe’s with noodles or a bagged salad, ice cream bar, whatever. Keep it easy and fun! Our local Jersey Mike’s does kids eat free after 4:00 pm, so it’s not uncommon for me to go there and grab a quick dinner for the four of us!

Choose a movie the whole family will enjoy: For us, this usually looks like me grabbing something new that has recently came out at Redbox. I’m going to share a list below of some of my favorites that we either watched over the summer or that we are looking forward to watching soon!

-Ugly Dolls
-Sandlot
-Secret Life of Pets 2
-Detective Pikachu
-Wonder Park
-Captain Marvel
-End Game
-Bumblebee
-Shazam!
-Spider-Man Homecoming
-Dumbo
