This post is sponsored by the generous sponsors from Visit Space Coast. Thank you so much for helping me coordinate an amazing trip and fully experience all that Space Coast has to offer.
I feel like it has taken me forever to share one of the best places we visited in 2021. Quite frankly, it was an emotional thing for me. This was the last vacation we went on with baby D and looking through the photos made me miss her dearly. However, I know many families are preparing to plan their summer vacation and I feel like I’d be doing a terrible disservice not to share about this Florida gem. It was an out of this world, and while I can’t promise that will be the last space inspired pun I’ll make while writing about this beautiful destination. I can promise you that you will not regret visiting. This particular post is going to be set up more like a complete schedule and overview, but in coming posts I’ll share tips and suggestions for each individual place.
We stayed at the absolutely stunning Home 2 Suites. We were so blown away, the room was absolutely massive. Having been stuck at home so long, it was nice to just have any change of scenery, but to arrive in that level of luxury was a welcome surprised. They had clearly recently redone the place and it showed. As a family of five, sometimes six, I’ve started paying special attention to “big family” accommodations. As someone who emphasizes budget friendly travel, I love that this space provided an area to cook. In our case, we ordered in pizza and ate it on the couch watching a movie after a day of exploring the city. We spent a ton of time by their pool, the cocktails were great, and we were blessed with perfect weather our entire stay.
As you can probably imagine, one of the highlights of our trip was visiting the Kennedy Space Center. If I’m being totally transparent, I didn’t know if I’d like this place. I wondered if it’d be boring? It was not. There was so much learning wrapped up in playing. In Florida, its always an added bonus if the place is mostly air conditioned. There’s a ton to do and I felt like it covered a range of ages of children. We were there all day and still didn’t see everything.
That was the day we ended up ordering pizza and have a relaxing evening. Between walking around and swimming for hours, we were yearning for some time to veg out. We picked up two delicious pizzas and fulfilled a life dream of Sawyer’s to eat on a hotel bed, like in the movies. The next morning we headed out for the kids’ surf lessons. Surfing is something we have always wanted to try, but the timing just hadn’t worked out for us in the past. Cocoa Beach is renowned for its surfing and they even have a santa surfing event that looked so cute. The instructor was so patient and sweet, Sawyer actually wants to continue surfing so I plan to look into a surf program locally for him. I love when kids find a new interest or hobby during our travels.
Hands down one of the best things we did on our trip was visiting the Brevard Zoo. We hadn’t been before, and WOW, it was one of the best zoos we’ve ever gone to. We’ve been to a lot of zoos over the years, because our kids love animals so much. This one was another level. The boys had the best time exploring the treetop ropes course, which I strongly recommend splurging on. It was space and beautiful. It is essentially an animal lined treetop course and the boys were all about it. I’ll speak on our zoo tips and tricks in a post dedicated just to them, but it was absolutely amazing and we spent several hours there.
Coming from Jacksonville, just two hours North of Space Coast, this was an amazing weekend destination for us. We’d been to the area multiple times because of cruising, but this trip was strictly dedicated to learning about the area has to offer and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. I’d suggest adding a couple days on to an upcoming Orlando vacation or making a long weekend out of it with kids and exploring the area. We had so much delicious local food in the area as well, so stay tuned for a part two!
