My best friend, Stephanie says it best when asked how she finds to read books. “you make time for what is important to you.” We are both writers, so reading inspires us. I love how it feels to enter another world through literature. I love what it means to be transported through vocabulary and imagination to different eras, human struggles, family triumphs, and a great self help book that inspires me to become a better version of myself.
How do I afford it?
The library. I research books of interest and then place them on hold at the library. I usually select the option to pick up through the drive thru, which further simplifies the process.
Hoopla- this is a streaming service that allows you to listen to audiobooks or rent ebooks for free.
Blogging for books- You don’t have to be a blogger to snag free books for review. Share your thoughts on the book you select and they mail you on your social media site.
Swap with friends.
How do I find time for it?
I listen to audiobooks a lot. These are great while I work on blog posts, fold laundry, clean the toilets.
I find minutes throughout the day to squeeze in a few pages. A few minutes before bed, a few minutes when I first wake up, and I’m drinking my coffee. Those few minutes add up.
I have family reading time. We all flip through our books and “read” for 15-20 minutes before we launch into reading aloud time.
