Gender Neutral Dinosaur Birthday

I'm pretty blown away that we celebrated Sawyer's second birthday over the weekend.  How did that happen?  It feels like just a couple of weeks ago, we were in the hospital welcoming him into the world. I'll be sharing the mushy gushy stuff soon, but this morning I'm talking party recap! So, we had a dinosaur pool party theme!  We obviously don't know many people here, but were thrilled that the grandparents could visit and two other families could come. …

Happy birthday, Sawyer bean!!

Even though we've been celebrating our little soy bean all weekend, today is his actual birthday!  It's hard to believe that July 11, 2014 was two years ago.      I can't be too sure what I'm celebrating. Am I celebrating my ornery little toddler or the fact I've managed to keep two kids simulteously alive for two years. I started planning for Sawyer's arrival when Liam was fourteen months old.  I knew two kids under two wouldn't be an…

Real life things people have said to or about my kids.

"Is he some kind of oriental?"  "His eyes look funny."  Barista: "did you adopt him from China?" Me: "No, he's half Korean." Barista: "oh, so you adopted him from Korea." Me: "no, his dad, my husband is Korean." Barista: "oh.  I'm going to adopt from China, because I've always heard they're great students."  Interrupting Manager: "this one is on me."  "What are they?" "Does he speak his first language?" "Yes, he speaks English."  "He's really tall for an Asian. Aren't…

Toddler Birthday Must Have: Milestone cards!

So, when these Milestone Cards first became popular on the internet, I was so bummed.  My boys were just out of the stage where they were useful to my family.  I loved this concept, celebrating the little things instead of a generic months post.  Well, they've done it again!  They have created two adorable new sets of cards geared towards your kiddos one-four years old, and they're so adorable! I think these would make an amazing first birthday gift.  My…

Having fun with your kiddos in Astoria, Oregon

So, continuing our Astoria recap and tips, I thought I would share some of the best places we went and some other fun things you might do with your family while you're there. The views in Astoria are incredible.  You could pretty much just walk around and be happy.  My kids enjoyed looking at the boats and watching our for geese.  Here are some other ideas!  Comment if you have more: The trolley:  This was one thing I was most…

The Riverwalk Inn in Astoria, Oregon

We had a completely blissful week in Astoria, Oregon.  It's the highest point in Oregon, and it's separated from Washington by only a bridge.  (We did cross the bridge so I could say I've been to Washington)  I have to tell you guys if you're planning a vacation, I think a tour of the coast cities in Oregon would be an amazing vacation for parents, kids, childless couples, girlfriends, bros, whatever. So far we've experienced Cannon Beach and Astoria, and I…

Why I’m a little jealous of my kids.

My dad passed away when I was two years old.  He had Leukemia, and for most on my life I never felt the affects on his absence.  I have written in the past about how his death triggers a lot of anxiety within me about having my own life end abruptly, and leaving my children without a mother.  The truth is, however, that for much of my childhood I didn't feel his loss.  He never occupied many of my memories,…
