Happy Ash Wednesday! Lent comes providentially to reawaken us, to shake us from our lethargy. –Pope Francis
Every year I love to share my intentions and plans for the Lent season. I have spent weeks in thought and in prayer wondering what to give up this year for Lent. Would I give up coffee? A favorite meal? Social Media? None of it felt like enough, none of these things felt like a true sacrifice. I wanted something that would stretch me out of my comfort zone. Something actually challenging on my heart and my time. Some thing that would help me grow in my faith. This year I’ve chosen to give up my time. You know those discretionary pieces of time when I choose something insignificant instead of something fruitful and kind. This year over the next forty days, I’m going to focus on intentionally seeking moments, opportunities, to serve others. every day for forty days. I’m going to say no to something that doesn’t make a difference in the long run, so I can say yes to something that serves others well. I’m going to forego time on social media in favor of five minutes to write a handwritten letter to a dear friend. I’m going to sign up for more meal trains, offer childcare to more friends, and say yes to an extra book at bedtime. I’m going to choose every day to give up my time in service to others. What are ya’ll giving up this Lent?
