Intentional learning time with Bookshark: a new series!

Disclosure: I received a free Bookshark Homeschool curriculum in exchange for an honest review on my blog through out our homeschool year! One of the intentions I set for 2017 was to begin a kindergarten readiness program with Liam. He's four, so obviously nothing insanely rigorous but I was hoping to really gauge where he is at and how I can help get ready for kindergarten in 2018. We've already started looking into different schools and even thought about private…

Reading: How to afford it & how to make time for it!

My best friend, Stephanie says it best when asked how she finds to read books.  "you make time for what is important to you."  We are both writers, so reading inspires us.  I love how it feels to enter another world through literature.  I love what it means to be transported through vocabulary and imagination to different eras, human struggles, family triumphs, and a great self help book that inspires me to become a better version of myself. How do…

Lent Recipes!

It is that time of year again, when all Catholic people wake up on Friday morning and fry up sausage or cut a piece of left casserole and realize that it is a day of fasting. During Lent, many religions give up meat on Fridays.  So, I thought I would share my easy-peasy ways to avoid meat and eat deliciously. Smoked Salmon Tuna boats on cucumber Steamed Scallops Grilled Shrimp (love with parsnips) Tuna Casserole Shrimp Po' Boys Clam Chowder…

Speaking Engagement Recap- Kid’s Parties on a budget!

I recently had the opportunity to speak to the mom's group I've been attending for nearly five years. This was actually my third time speaking to them, but it was extra special to me as it will be my last. Our house is finalized and the move is only eight weeks away now. It's impressive how quickly we managed to get this new house considering it seems like only yesterday we had a credit card for someone with no credit!…

Our first time at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago!

Disclaimer:  We received free admission to LEGOLAND Discovery Center in exchange for an honest review of the place.  All opinions are my own! On our way back from our fabulous weekend trip to Gurnie, IL we stopped off at LEGOLAND Discovery Center.  After celebrating a LEGO Christmas this year, this was really the highlight of the trip for our four and two year old sons.  (and let's be real, their engineer dad.) We went on a Sunday, and arrived when…

Shedd Aquarium with preschoolers + tips & tricks for a successful trip!

Disclaimer:  I received complimentary admission for my family of four in exchange for this blog post.  All opinions and ideas within in the post are my own! We had the opportunity to visit Chicago this weekend, and what a treat!  We didn't do any traveling this year over the holidays, but since we are moving to the West Coast in only 13 weeks (we found out we are moving sooner than expected) we wanted to get away to Chicago one…

Meal Plan Monday

Our family arrives on Wednesday!  I'm so excited to see them.  I'm keeping our meals light and easy this week so we can focus on eating together, rather than the stress of meal preparation and planning! On Wednesday, we have to drive an hour to pick up our family.  So, I'm going to throw my favorite soup into the slow cooker.  It'll be warm and ready for us when we return home. Thursday- we will be celebrating my husband's post…

Our trip to Jingle Rails!

Disclosure:  We received complimentary admission to review our experience at Eiteljorg Museum and their Jingle Rails exhibit. Sawyer loves trains so much.  I couldn't wait to take him to the Jingle Rails exhibit at the Indianapolis Eiteljorg Museum.  The museum itself was a little mature for my loud, active two little boys.  There was some interactive parts downstairs for the boys, which we were really fun.  They went along perfectly with pioneer books we've been reading as we head into…
