“THE ORNAMENT OF A HOUSE IS THE FRIENDS WHO FREQUENT IT.” – RALPH WALDO EMERSON

I love to host guests, I really do. My house is my happy place, I invest a huge chunk of my life into its’ cleanliness and creating a space that feels safe and soothing to its inhabitants and guests.  I hope my kids grow up and think of me fondly with a can of spray paint in my hand. I hope they remember cutting out pictures from magazines: colors, inspirations, patterns we love.  I hope they remember browsing aisle after aisle with me in Home Depot, finding our wood, nails, screws.  Above all, I hope they remember we invested in our home as a way to invest in our family. I want them to remember family and friends spending their long weekends at our house!  I want their childhood memories to be full of delicious recipes, Thanksgiving traditions, and snores from the guest room. However, crafting these idyllic childhood memories is not without work!

I like to keep a tidy house, I love helping guests feel welcome and cozy.  I’m also all about a great deal, which is why I actually get my cleaning products at Home Depot.

They always have great prices on cleaning supplies, so be on the lookout for Pledge® product promotions on display in Home Depot stores 11/1/17 through 1/31/18!  I like to stick to signature cleaning products, I know family gatherings can get dirty!  Whether it’s the extra kids or the extra pets, I like to keep Windex® Original Glass Cleaner, Pledge® Orange Clean, and Scrubbing Bubbles® Fantastik® cleaner handy to clean up whatever mess might make its way into our house.

We have this beautiful farmhouse table in our house, and Pledge® is what I always use to protect our table while getting rid of the dust!

I have two little boys, and they are always running their fingers on my windows!  Thankfully, Windex® has an Unbeatable Streak Free Shine. Trusted for generations, Windex® Original Glass Cleaner cleans and shines glass, mirrors, and more! Windex® Original Glass Cleaner starts working on dirt and grime even before you wipe.

In this house, the area we have to be most concerned with is always our kitchen and bathrooms.  When we have company in town, I want them to be fed well.  Feeding people well usually means making a giant mess!  I always get ready for guests and maintain my kitchen cleanliness standards with Scrubbing Bubbles® Fantastik® All-purpose cleaner and degreaser (removes grease, grime, AND soap scum. So, I only need one spray for all my surfaces!) Powerful anti-bacterial formula cleans and disinfects a variety of household surfaces, including counters, stoves, microwaves and more!

I always look forward to cleaning for guests, it’s a joy to put in the time preparing my home to serve others.  It is just an added advantage that Windex®, Pledge® & Scrubbing Bubbles® Fantastik® products make it easier!

The one area of our house that would need a facelift before the holidays was our guest room.  I knew I didn’t want to spend a ton of money updating it, because we will be moving to a permanent home soon.  I wanted something that would be quick and easy to build, functional, and beautiful.  I decided to make a pallet double bed, so visiting families would have a place for their children to sleep and single guests could enjoy the second bed as a relaxing seating area.

I collected pallets from area businesses that were no longer using them.

I sanded the pallets.  (because nothing says “so sad you’re here” like a splinter!)

I painted the pallets white. (I used chalk paint, because I love the coverage!)

One they dried, I moved them upstairs and arranged them into a square by a wall.

Mattress only for the twin size portion of this bed, and boxspring and mattress for the larger bed.

Arrange pillows on the twin size bed to create a couch of sorts.

Style the bed

Once the bed was assembled, I knew we were ready for our holiday visitors.  The bed was about 15.00 to build, it ties in so well to the other farmhouse details in our home.  I love the space it provides for visitors, while remaining comfortable and cozy.  Best of all, it was so easy to assemble and perfect for entertaining Thanksgiving visitors.  I urge you to open your homes this holiday season, practice hospitality with your families and friends!  Head to your local Home Depot, choose a paint color that fills you with joy, get your cleaning supplies for a great price, and head home to make lasting memories with those you love!

    1. This turned out great!! You’re so creative! I need to start scouring local businesses for pallets. There’s so many Pinteresty projects I want to do.

    1. That’s adorable! Maybe that’s what I should do, but with like 3 king beds so I can fit all these hooligans in at night! 😂
